Water for gas, a dream come true right? Well, not really. Pure hydrogen gas made out of water is going to be expensive, dangerous and require you to buy a new car to use it. What can we do right now to save money at the pump? Build your own hydrogen generator and turn your car into a water burning hybrid, that’s what!
A hydrogen generator actually takes ordinary water and breaks it down to its core elements of two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. It does this by a technology known as electrolysis that has been around for decades.
You see, the reason we even have water is in the fact that every atom has either a positive or negative charge. Unlike charges attract one another and although it is much more complicated than I’m making it out to be, the idea is that through this attraction the hydrogen atoms are bonded to oxygen atoms because of their opposite charges to create the water molecule H2O.
If we were to submerse two electrodes, or coils of wire into a container of water and run a voltage through them, one positive and the other negative, it would make sense that we could pull the water molecule apart by tugging at the oxygen atom with an opposite charge and do the same with the hydrogen atoms.
Now it is much more difficult to break the bond between the two hydrogen atoms in a water molecule which would give us pure hydrogen gas. As of right now, this is an incredibly expensive and difficult thing to do but one that would be very profitable for a large corporation to pursue.
Well, we don’t need pure hydrogen. We just need a burnable gas. By electrolysis, we can create this gas known as HHO, or Brown’s gas and we can do it with a home made hydrogen generator that can be built for under $65.
The gas is then injected into the engine where it mixes with the fuel you are already using and allows for a more complete combustion cycle resulting in increased efficiency. You create a hybrid of sorts.
